Photos as I Like It

Sticking with the noir theme that goes so well with these very late/early time periods, I headed back to the Naval Base and found this nicely lite inset door.

Molly, Sarah and I are back at it with a yearly photo challenge, and repeating a favorite from a few years ago. We'll be taking a photo at every hour of the day (two/month) starting at Midnight. Also joining us this time is Katie and my Mom. Looking forward to seeing all the different views around the state and world as Sarah travels. Here's my midnight photo, at the Alameda Navy Base, one of my favorite old buildings sitting on the bay, and all lit up at night.

July's monthly theme was Summer Fun and these images may not look like what you'd expect from a theme with summer and fun as the concept, I enjoyed a unique opportunity to photograph inside three abandoned buildings on the old Alameda Naval Base . A photography group my Mom belongs to was invited to photograph and document these buildings that will soon be torn down as the base is slowly turned over to the City of Alameda and transitioned for other uses. The buildings were really interesting, mostly cleared out, but with random things left here and there, seemingly exactly how they were when last occupied. But also very creepy and dark, with varying amounts of light coming in at many different spots and angles. Molly's image Sarah's image

Here's the collection of images from my final class project. With a little encouragement, I decided to switch from black and white to color. This series is all unused, decrepit buildings from the Alameda Naval Base.

For the next five weeks, I'm taking a Creative Photography of Architecture class, so you're likely to see a few images that are also class assignments. This weeks assignment is a one- or two-story building portrait. I headed out to the abandoned Alameda Naval Base which is a weird mix of empty buildings that are no longer in use, and some that have been taken over for new businesses. This old credit union building is definitely abandoned, and doesn't even look like it really was ever used as a credit union.
