A Moment in Time: 4am--The Corner Store

For the 4am capture, I decided to wander outside and see what this sleepy island of Alameda looks like in the middle of the night. It was very quiet, at least at my corner of Bay Station in middle Alameda. There wasn't another person or car coming my way, so I focused on the corner market which was closed, but still had a little light coming from inside.

I'm definitely looking forward to moving into morning hours, and soon daytime hours. I'm sure many people consider 4am morning, but it still feels like the middle of the night to me, somehow 5am feels significantly different.

A Moment in Time: 2pm--High Street Bridge

For today's 2pm moment, I am back home so I figured it was a good time to finish my series of routes on and off the island of Alameda. Today's feature is the High Street Bridge, another draw bridge with a very distinctive look all in silver paint. I loved all the lines and shadows. This photo is taken from the Oakland side, looking into Alameda.

And, a few outtakes showing different parts of the bridge, including the lights and lots of corners.

Monthly Themes: May--Street Photography

This month's theme is street photography, and while my selection may not seem like it fits the definition of street photography because it is not outdoors or on a street. But it does fit this definition from Eric Kim in that it's candid and it's in a public place: http://erickimphotography.com/blog/2013/08/07/what-is-street-photography-2/.

I also appreciate his final point: "Definitions, shmefinitions... I recommend giving the middle finger to definitions--and not worrying about it. Who cares what people classify your type of photography to be? As long as you enjoy the photos you are taking--isn't that enough?"

This image is from a dance recital I attended recently while visiting friends whose three daughters all performed in many magical ways. This sweet moment was captured during the finale when all the dancers return back on stage to be honored for their hard work throughout the year. You can see how much the littles love the older dancers and how much they…

A Moment in Time Repeat: 3 AM

Sticking with the noir theme that goes so well with these very late/early time periods, I headed back to the Naval Base and found this nicely lite inset door.
